Reminders and Things

Reminders

Pink

Sheep

I always seem to get hungry and then decide that I have "nothing to eat" which is not at all true, I have plenty of things to eat. So, to remind myself, I write myself letters and lists. It seems to help. One day I hope to get a chalkboard so it can be an ever-changing list. I don't even care that the people that come over can see these things, they should all know I'm forgetful, sometimes. I also just got some grapefruits. They are the most beautiful color. I think my eyes are tired of grey because I also bought a variety of apple that I've never tried (but turned out to like, thank goodness) because of the color. I miss flowers and sunlight and blue skies (it was sunny out today and I stared at the sky while I was out and about). That last picture is another of the drawings from my German project (a children's book). I used my typewriter for the words, which was pretty exciting, I love excuses to use it. Well, I think that's all I wanted to say, have a great week (I have tons to do, so we'll see if I reappear before the weekend, most likely not).

I'm extra talkative because I've been extra hermit-y, which turned out to be a good thing when I gave a presentation for class today.

A lazy Monday

For some reason the past couple of days I have been sleeping in even later than usual. It's a habit I need to break because it leaves me tired from getting too much sleep. It's always seemed strange to me that you get tired if you sleep for too long.

Sorry I disappeared over the weekend, I was busy watching bicyclists go in circles at dizzying speeds, working on one of the busiest days of the summer so far, sleeping, watching movies with Shawn (I've given up on the nickname idea, that is just silly), floating the river, playing horseshoes in the dark and finding fellow lovers of Pushing Daisies (which if you didn't know finished out it's second season in May and June... Why didn't anyone tell me? Oh, well I will find out the ending tonight). Sounds like a pretty boring weekend, but I think that I have come to love summer, much like this sweet girl down in California.

I wouldn't say that I never liked summer, it just isn't my favorite season, I definately prefer autumn or winter, give me cold weather that I can bundle up in and enjoy a hot cup of tea without feeling ridiculous. However, I think that summer is finding a new place in my heart. Despite that I am beginning to think my skin is biting itself I keep finding so many random new bugbites on me and the near 100 degree heat. Yes, this summer is making me reconsider the feelings I had for the season of sun before, maybe it's just that this year I am actually doing all the fabulous things I have always wanted to spend my summer doing and making new friends along the way.

Whatever the case I have to say that the colors of summer will probably never be my favorite, and that it will probably always make me long to be living in a beach house that is painted something similar to the colors in this photo. Perhaps I'm crazy, but a faded seafoam green cottage on the beach... sounds perfect for a summer getaway.

Color Post #3: Yellow

What says summer like the color yellow? It's the color of sunshine, of flowers, and of lemonade... yum. I must say, I love rooms that are painted yellow, they are always such happy rooms. I think that yellow is my favorite color right now, it's definately at least near the top of the list, and as long as it isn't neon, it doesn't matter the shade.
I've been shooting a lot of film lately so there will be lots of pretty pictures from lakes and such things soon, hopefully.

Color Post #1: Red

When I began this blog I named it A Cartography of Colors because color is one of the most important things to me, without it, I am at a loss as to what to do. I originally planned on having a color themed post every week, but that obviously hasn't happened. I am going to start it now, though. What better color to start with than the vivacious shade, red?

At first I didn't think that I would find much red around me, it's late and I just decided to do this, so I wasn't able to go out and take pictures, but then as I looked around, I realized that I really have surrounded myself with some really beautiful and wonderful shades of red. I personally don't like the really bright and primary-looking shades of red that you can find, but instead prefer the rich and deep tones. They really speak to me as having stories behind them, which I know sounds strange, colors having a story behind them. But to me it makes sense.

Above you see, the top of my desk, here at home, stained a really pretty shade of red, my cowboy boots, which I recently re-discovered my love for, and a teacup that was carried accross the country by my great-great-grandmother. Perhaps there really are stories behind colors, after all. Each of these things have stories, why can't it be the color that is telling the story?
