School

So I started school this week (Hooray!) and although this term is going to require me memorizing an ungodly amount of things, I'm really looking forward to all my classes. I am still in the process of getting internet in my apartment so I haven't really been keeping up with any television shows or the news lately, but when I was reading some blogs today, I came across this post. It's short and simple and quite nerdy but I was quite excited about it... all it says is:

OMG! Sue Sylvester said "hominid!"

If you're interested in keeping up with current anthropology news (especially biological and paleoanthopolgy) check out the blog I got this from... here.

Recently

I received a free Pictoral Webster's poster in the mail. I'm in love with the illustration... how did they randomly send me such an appropriate one? I also made a really boring cardboard box a little prettier with some origami paper and a paper bag. Nothing all that exciting just little things that excite me. I have to admit that right now I am a little to excited for a study project I'm working on... I'm making a wall of human skeletal anatomy! I know... not many people find this all that exciting (it makes me want to jump up and down with excitement), in fact some might even say it's creepy. I doubt anyone will really know what they are though, I really can't draw well. I mean when an art teacher tells you you can't draw, you know you really can't draw.

Supposedly

I am supposed to be writing a paper right now. I am supposed to be sleeping right now. I am supposed to be cleaning right now. There are a lot of things that I feel I am supposed to be doing right now, but I'm not doing any of them. And you know what? Right now I am ok with that. Earlier today I went and visited Nicole and Rachel. It was nice, I hadn't really seen them much since I moved back so we just sat around and talked for a few hours. I also scanned a bunch of old (I mean REALLY old) photos. I don't really have anything else to talk about, my brain was just filled with lots of facts about Ardipithecus ramidus, the oldest fossil remains of human ancestors ever found. Sorry, I'll try to keep myself from geeking out on you about that. (But it is really interesting, I promise)

P.S. I have a yearning for the ocean right now. I don't know why, I've barely even spent time there in my life.

Light + Dark

I love photographing contrasts between light and dark.

This was my brother's room at some point this moring, he put a blanket up over the window to block the light from my neighbors yard.

I'm pathetically boring lately, earlier today I got excited about a 1973 National Geographic article about finding the then oldest remains of a human ancestor (actually, I think that they are still the oldest, but I'm not sure, I'm not remembering things like I usually do). I am becoming nerdier by the minute.

Some Nerdiness

So tonight I have been quite nerdy, more so than usual. I spent the last hour and a half or so listening to this fascinating lecture on the extinction of languages and a specific tribe of South America. As someone planning on studying anthropology I found this extremely interesting, because their culture is so different from any that I have ever heard of, perhaps I should be a nerd more often, or perhaps their culture is truly full of completely unique concepts. I'm sure they are completely unique, but they were quite fascinating to me and the information about linguistics and their language was very interesting as well.

Now, to be a little bit less nerdy, I also found some lovely photos on flickr today, enjoy.

I'm beginning to long for autumn, I think those photos reflect that. I can't wait to get all my warm clothes out again.
