People

Sometimes people really annoy me. My psuedo-aunt (she's my stepmom's sister, so we aren't really all that related) told her niece (in my terms, my psuedo-cousin) that she looked "so grown-up" the other day when I went to dinner with them and some other family members (psuedo- and real). She then turned to me and said, "Not you, you still look like a little girl." To which I responded, "I'm only 19." Which is true, I am only 19, I spend most of my days going to class, studying for class, or scooping ice cream, most of the time, I don't need to be all that grown-up looking. Although I have realized more and more lately, that in just a year I will be out in the world as a college graduate and I might want to look a little more grown up then. Today, when I needed a break from writing about German history (actually it's just the history of a German island but I have to write it in German which makes my head go into over-drive after a while) I decided to see if I actually do look grown-up at all when I try. Which, is a lot of fun for me, I get to get out of my T-shirts and jeans and try and look nice, because in reality I'm wearing a plaid shirt and some cords today with a pair of tennis shoes. I should also mention that Alli's weekly feature of what she is wearing and her statement about having outfits that just don't work out today kind of inspired this as well, you can check out what she's wearing (along with various other things) over at One Pearl Button.  I'm going to caption these pictures because I think they're kind of awful and it's more fun for me.

I was frustrated by the set-up of my room not being good for taking pictures not in a mirror so I gave up and used a mirror. Also, please ignore the mess on my floor.

I really love these shoes... my pasty legs... not so much.

Awkward half-showing-my-teeth smile.

Curls

Bow

Worries

I put my hair into pin-curls earlier tonight, simply to try something new, I mean my hair is straight as a stick and hates curling irons, I might as well try and get it to do something else. I couldn't sleep and so decided to take out the pins a bit early, which was probably a good idea, now I can let the curls calm down a bit. Since my hair is pretty short they kind of went out of control, yet I have to say I'm enjoying having curly hair right now, even if it never happens again. Oh and I know that I look like an old lady in that picture, but trust me, I look better there than in any of the others since it was 2 in the morning and there were giant bags under my eyes.

Bright Star

After seeing this post over on frolic, I decided I had to watch Bright Star. I am so glad that I did. It is the kind of movie that embodies my daydreams. There are so many little details throughout the whole thing, just the location itself was amazing. In addition, the light, cinematography, and everything else was beautiful. I however, may be biased toward liking romantic films full of letters and poetry. As deep down I'm an endless romantic as well as still hiding a desire to become a poet (which will probably never happen). My favorite scene byfar though was the room full of butterflies. It made me want summer to be here, to go out and collect butterflies in jars and let them fly around my room.

I also think that in a former life I may have been a man in the early 1800's, I'm so in love with the way they dress, I wish I could look as smart and put together as they do.

Oxfords

Oxfords

Oxfords

Today I got a very exciting package in the mail. Some oxfords, which I have been wanting for months (not this particular pair, but anything similar, really). I'm excited beyond belief and am promptly going to begin wearing them everyday.

Being a girl

It seems that as much as I want to wear dresses and skirts and girly clothes everyday, I can't. This isn't just because I don't have enough dresses or skirts or girly clothes to wear everyday but also because, well, I love pants. But some days I need to be girly. I was pretty girly today, I even wore heels... crazy.

Why?

Why in the world do I always seem to fall in love with Frye's shoes? I was browsing around looking at random shoes in various internet locations, specifically hoping to find a smart pair of oxfords when I stumbled upon these. They seem perfect, they are exactly what I want. I just wish I had the money to spend on them, cause they're pricey.

In other news, I had a great weekend, I didn't make it out into the woods until Saturday and had to come back early on Sunday, but it was still great. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

Toast

I am itching to get into some autumn-worthy clothes. I think that because autumn is my favorite of all seasons I have, unwittingly based most of my wardrobe on autumn weather. It is frustrating that the weather has been cooler lately but not cool enough to pull out some boots, a light scarf, and a sweater. That is what I am dreaming of. And this post on Unruly Things today has got me itching to go and buy most of the Early Fall collection from Toast. Don't they just have lovely things? It's all full of patterns and stripes and boots and oxfords and trousers and cozy sweaters and buttons and jackets and trousers and leather bags and nice belts and yumminess. Or at least that all says yumminess to me, just add a few ruffles and I would be in heaven. Oh dear, I really need the weather to turn just a little bit colder in a couple of weeks, but not for this weekend, cold weather and camping would be disasterous, or just lots of fun minus some possible swimming. Probably the second one. And now I need to stop looking at yummy clothing and go to sleep, before the idea of toast starves me anymore. ( I actually have become literally hungry)

Meteorites

A few days ago when it was still fairly cold out, I decided to try and dress girly-ish. This is what I came up with, I guess sometimes I can be quite a tomboy and not even realize it.

I have to say, professional loiterers must have one of the hardest jobs ever. I would be so easily bored just sitting there and invading public spaces. Though that is kind of what I did for quite a while today, I just didn't stay in one place. Right now though, I'm not feeling all that great and am going to find something to snack on and go try and watch the meteor shower (which in case anyone is interested, is supposed to peak tomorrow and Thursday night). I can't believe how quickly this summer has gone.

Dress-Up

I love raiding my mother's closet. We are similar sizes, though her legs are a bazillion times longer than mine (as are most people's). Tonight I found a couple of things that I could not help loving. These sailor pants which are, I admit, too big for me but so adorable I could ignore it if I somehow end up with them in Portland, no idea how that would happen... and this faded pink polka-dot ruffly blouse... I am sighing just describing it. I also found a plaid button down shirt and a belt that reminds me of the ones I fell in love with recently. Sorry if you seem to be missing some clothes when you get back, Mom.
Oh, and excuse my bad photos and modeling, please.

Something

So, I went with my dearest and oldest friend on a little night out and I am really in love with the outfit I wore, so I am sharing that tonight. Oh, and I am awful at taking pictures of myself and really have nowhere to take them here, so they are really sucky, sorry. I know that is a little boring, if anyone wants to hear about anything in particular, let me know. I'm off to bed now, I have to get up super early tomorrow... should be interesting.

The Weekend

My weekend was filled with family, cars, allergies, and happiness. I'm not sure if I feel like elaborating right now, but I think I will, just because I'm not going to be able to sleep for a little while and need something to occupy my time (oh, the joys of insomnia!). Anyway, this weekend was my great-grandparents's 70th wedding anniversary! Now that is something to aspire to! Anyway, this means I headed over to the valley (I'm sure most people have no idea what I'm talking about when I say that), for their party. While I was there I also visited my grandparents who own the adorable car that I will say more about at a later time in the first picture. I spent my favorite time of summer days, twilight, in their beautiful garden and snapped a few pictures between my sneezes and sniffles. Today, after driving home, I went to see that certain someone, who I need to come up with some kind of short, easy nickname for on here. Anyway, we spent most of the day together just getting to know each other better, I think that is the best part of any relationship, just sitting and talking with someone for hours without having to worry about anything and learning things you wouldn't otherwise learn. He also lent me a copy of Alice in Wonderland which I have been meaning to read since I was about nine, so I will now, finally, be able to take that off my list! I hope that everyone else in the world had as good of a weekend as I did (I already know of a few people that didn't, but I'm hoping they are the only ones).

Review of the Day

I'm sure that someone out there, that reads this (does anyone read this? I'm not exactly sure) will be disapointed that I did not take a single photo today. I carried my camera around and didn't turn it on once. Oh, well, I still had a wonderful day, and in case you're wondering (once again I'm not sure who "you" would be) things seem to be heading in the right direction.

On another note, I am in love with these clothing designs by Mina Perhonen. Aren't they gorgeous? I wish i could have each one, I especially love the fabrics which are designed by the same person behind the entire line.

Inspiration

I apologize for the double posting today. I know I have been posting a lot, but I really felt I needed to post this right now. At some point tonight it rained a little bit and I was sitting outside right afterward, the smell was amazing. It's one of my favorite smells, I just wish that I could somehow reproduce it. Anyway, after this, while I was sitting on the back step, the sprinklers turned on and the pattern that they made on our back patio was for some reason very inspiring to me, it was creeping along in that way that water has. I took this inspiration and decided to re-do the wall in my room where I put up things that inspire me (as I hadn't in over a year). In case you are wondering about half of the things on there now are Marc Jacobs ads, because I love his clothes and also really enjoy Juergen Teller's photos. That then inspired me to make a new piece of art... let me know what you think, please! That is all I had to say for now.

Night!
