Delicate

Flowers

Windowsill

Coffee

Quite a while ago a friend of mine described my blog as containing "delicate little descriptions." I honestly haven't been able to get these words out of my head since I first read them. Mostly it's that one word: delicate. I feel like the entire world is delicate, like my entire life is delicate; one wrong turn and everything can fall apart, everything can disappear. I like to think that light is delicate and when I take pictures I am trying to capture the delicate little bits and pieces that the light is creating. I'm trying to show people how delicate my life is, how the light streams through all the cracks and pinholes, how it's like a whole other universe waiting to be discovered. That's what light really is to me, it's what reveals the truth. Anything can happen when it's dark, but when the light comes back, when the sun rises, that's when everything really happens, and those in-between moments are just magical, anything can happen between the lightness and the darkness.

Hello

Looking Down

This weekend had quite a few surprises behind it (both bad and good). I'll tell you all about it with lots more pictures later when I have less schoolwork to get done. I got new shoes... again... I really love the light at twilight (I feel so dirty using that word now... thanks a lot Stephanie Meyer).

Softness

Softness

Rain makes the light so soft. And me so sleepy.

I am currently in Bend, watching my younger brother for the weekend. I love the light in my parent's house.

This Weekend

Haystack

Watching

Last Moments

Us

In addition to coffee on Friday my weekend included many things... a trip to the coast with my oldest and one of my best friends, a moment of realization that led to a temporary breakdown, a day of recovery in bed following said breakdown, spending time getting to know someone I'm going to spend five minutes speaking in German in front of a class with, making up an experience for my homework. Overall it was a good weekend, there was plenty of sunshine and I got out of my apartment for a good portion of it. I'm working on being better about that. I'll have more pictures from the coast when I get some film developed... so soonish.

Bright Star

After seeing this post over on frolic, I decided I had to watch Bright Star. I am so glad that I did. It is the kind of movie that embodies my daydreams. There are so many little details throughout the whole thing, just the location itself was amazing. In addition, the light, cinematography, and everything else was beautiful. I however, may be biased toward liking romantic films full of letters and poetry. As deep down I'm an endless romantic as well as still hiding a desire to become a poet (which will probably never happen). My favorite scene byfar though was the room full of butterflies. It made me want summer to be here, to go out and collect butterflies in jars and let them fly around my room.

I also think that in a former life I may have been a man in the early 1800's, I'm so in love with the way they dress, I wish I could look as smart and put together as they do.

Lightness

There's sunshines and a sunset out today. It's lovely, I miss the light sometimes, although it's supposedly spring here in Portland. There are things budding and beginning to grow already.

Winter

I know it's only November, it hasn't even been Thanksgiving yet, but I feel like autumn is over and winter is here. I think part of it is that the winter rains have started and back in Bend, there is snow. My family went skiing today... it must be winter. When I think of winter I think of hot cocoa, cozy blankets, and reading (in a relaxing, recreational way). Unfortunately, this winter I am set to take a very full schedule so the only reading I'll be doing for a while will be for school. This isn't always a bad thing, but I do enjoy my novels and have quite a collection of unread books sitting around that I want to tackle. The light that winter brings, especially here in Portland, makes me want to procrastinate and avoid my homework (or maybe I'm just making up excuses for myself). There is a stillness in the cold grey light of winter that I don't think I've ever really found anywhere else, it is quite magical actually.

Light + Dark

I love photographing contrasts between light and dark.

This was my brother's room at some point this moring, he put a blanket up over the window to block the light from my neighbors yard.

I'm pathetically boring lately, earlier today I got excited about a 1973 National Geographic article about finding the then oldest remains of a human ancestor (actually, I think that they are still the oldest, but I'm not sure, I'm not remembering things like I usually do). I am becoming nerdier by the minute.

Laundry

You can call me crazy or a neat-freak, I'd have to say that they are both true at least some of the time. And you can call me these things because, well, I love laundry, and laundry rooms. I know that is a little strange. I think it is because of the light, I'm not much of a morning person (I'm up early today because I had to drive my parents to the airport and will shortly be going back to sleep) and it seems to me that laundry rooms have a perpetual morning-light-ness to them. I love it. It helps that clean clothes are also one of my favorite things as well.

Happiness

I am posting early today because I actually have a lot of plans... sort of... well, it's a lot for me. Anyway, these are more pictures from my recent film batch, they are evidence that I should not bring my film camera when it is dark out, I just end up taking really blurry pictures. However, I like these two a lot, so maybe it's a good thing I do stupid things. In case you are wondering (which I'm sure no one is), today my plans are to see Public Enimies and then perhaps go get tea, visit the farmer's market, and sit in the park with a friend of mine (who may become more than a friend in the future, my fingers are crossed). I will of course bring my camera along to share my lovely day with everyone. I hope that you have just as wonderful a day!

Mornings

I cannot sleep right now, it's much too late for me to be typing, so I apologize in advance for any typos. I want to talk about mornings right now. Morning is an interesting time for me, depending on how I'm feeling I could be up in time to catch the end of it or just sleep right through it, but no matter when I wake up I almost always seem to catch the beginning of it. In fact, going back to school has always been difficult for me because I am a night owl and don't do well in the morning. I've learned to force myself to get up though. Breakfast is one part of morning-time that I really have mixed feelings on, I love breakfast food, like the cinnamon toast I had this morning (I suppose it is now, technically, yesterday morning), or pretty much everything I have ever eaten at Stepping Stone. Anyway, the one part of morning that I have always loved is the light. And the other part that I have come to love is coffee, and along with coffee, coffee cups (like mine from Anthropologie, have I mentioned I am obsessed with everything in that store?).
